Box Score NAMPA, Idaho – The Alaska Nanook volleyball team wrapped up its two-game road trip with a three set loss to 23rd nationally ranked, and Great Northwest Athletic Conference leading, Northwest Nazarene University on Saturday evening.
The Nanooks (0-14, 0-6 GNAC), who lost by set scores of 19, 20 and 14, now return home for a pair of GNAC events against Western Oregon University and Saint Martin's University (Wash.) on Thursday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 4.
Junior
Sam Harthun contributed a co-match-high 11 kills while freshman
Riley Podowicz hit an impressive .533 percentage (8 kills on 15 attacks).
Defensively,
Samantha Hesterman recorded nine digs while
Maddie Davis had three total blocks.
For the Crusaders (12-1, 5-0 GNAC) Elayna Rice matched Harthun's 11 kills while the trio of Kaitlyn Thuloski, Michelle Terpstra and Taylor Roberts each recorded eight digs.
"Riley is a constant offensive threat for us,
said head coach Mallory Larranaga on Podowicz's strong day. "She gives the team another dimension that we will look to build off of." Larranaga continued, "as a team we improved tonight. It's not easy with the results we've been getting, but we are building a strong foundation."
Alaska's next match is Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m. against GNAC rivals, the Western Oregon Wolves.
