Alaska Volleyball Drops Home Match to MSUB

Box Score FAIRBANKS-The Alaska Nanook volleyball team fell in straight sets (17-25, 19-25, 19-25) to Montana State University - Billings in a rare Monday night contest at the Patty Center. 

Freshman Brooke Mattice paced the Nanooks with 12 kills off a .162 hitting percentage, while junior Miranda Grieser delivered 23 assists and five kills in the loss.  Junior Sam Harthun put down nine kills and led the Nanooks with 12 digs.

The Yellowjackets (8-4, 3-1 GNAC) outhit Alaska .435 to .127.  Monica Grimsrud and Chelsey Walter each tabbed 11 kills in the 3-set win.  Walter hit a blistering .786 on an error free night.  Setter Kyndal Williams delivered 40 assists.  MSUB won the net battle, out blocking Alaska 12-1. 

The match capped a span of eight matches in 10 days for the Nanooks.  Head volleyball coach Mallory Larranaga spoke of getting back to a more standard season schedule.

"We need to get back into a schedule and routine," said Larranaga.  "We will be really working on our goal of getting better as a team."

Alaska (0-12, 0-4 GNAC) now heads back on the road with conference matches against Central Washington on Thursday and Northwest Nazarene on Saturday.
