Alaska Volleyball Closes Out Steel/Silver Classic with Two Defeats

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Nanook volleyball team closed out the Steel/Silver Classic with loses to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and Lindenwood University (Mo.) on Saturday afternoon.

Alaska (0-8) was defeated by UCCS (3-4) in the morning session by scores of 20-25, 20-25 and 18-25 before it lost to Lindenwood (3-5) in straight sets, 15, 19 and 17.

In the first match, UCCS was led by the duo of Kim Catlett and Cassidy Bush. Catlett led all attackers with 16 kills while Bush contributed 13. Catlett also had a game-high four service aces and was tied the game-high with eight digs.

For the Nanooks, Brooke Mattice was the leading attacker with 12 kills on 30 attempts (.333 percentage). Dylan Branch and Miranda Grieser paced the offense with 13 and 11 respective assists.
Defensively, Sam Hesterman and Tessa Butterfield each recorded eight digs. Riley Podowicz and Sam Harthun each had a solo block and a block assist.

Against Lindenwood, the Nooks were once again led by Mattice who recorded a game-high 12 kills. Maddie Davis and Harthun each had nine kills while Harthun also had the team's lone service ace. Lilah Hudson led all Alaskan blockers with four total blocks.

The Lions' Sarah Makowski had 11 kills as well as five total blocks and Ivy Reynolds had 31 assists to lead all setters.

The Nanooks now open up GNAC action with a road trip to Simon Fraser University (B.C.) on Tuesday, September 16, at 6 p.m.
