FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Alaska men's basketball head coach
Mick Durham rounded out the Nanooks' large 2014-15 recruiting class by announcing the signing of
Almir Hadzisehovic (pronounced Hodd-zee-SAY-ho-vitch) (Belgrade, Serbia) to a National Letter of Intent.
The 6-foot-8-inch center from Ohlone College in Fremont, Calif., caps off Alaska's 11-player recruiting class for next season with size and experience. He averaged 10.1 points and 4.0 rebounds in 30 games last season for the Renegades, who went 23-7 on the year and made it to the third round of the California Community College Athletic Association NorCal playoffs.
"We're excited to announce our last signing of Almir and add him to our front line," said Durham. "Almir's a big body that helped Ohlone to a 23-7 record and started all season at center position. He's crafty inside and plays within himself and will be a great teammate."
Hadzisehovic joins 10 other Nanooks recruits signed for the 2014-15 season. Other incoming Alaska recruits include
Kyle Carlson (Fairbanks, Alaska),
Alex Duncan (Boise, Idaho),
Ashton Edwards (Compton, Calif.),
Eric Fongue (Zurich, Switzerland),
Adam Griffin (Pacific Palisades, Calif.),
Isaac LaDines (Arlington, Wash.),
Reese Robinson (Anchorage, Alaska),
Derritt Scarver (Tracy, Calif.),
Ruben Silvas (Tucson, Ariz.) and
Kyle Tomlinson (Mesa, Ariz.).
"(Hadzisehovic) can step out and keep defenses honest on the perimeter and passes and sees the floor well for a big man," added Durham. "Great kid, great character, great student; he brings the same attributes to our program that our other spring signings will also."
Hadzisehovic helped Ohlone College to a second place finish in the North Coast Conference and a first round bye in the CCCAA playoffs last season. He posted double-figure points in 15 games and five or more rebounds in 13 contests.
Hadzisehovic spent his freshman season at Utah State University Eastern, a two-year junior college in Price, Utah. He played in 22 games with six starts in 2012-13 for the Golden Eagles, averaging 3.5 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.
The Nanooks and all of the new faces will begin the 2014-15 season at home on Nov. 14 and 15 with exhibition games against Trinity International before starting the regular season with the sixth annual Alaska Invitational on Nov. 20-22.
