Nanook Men's Comeback Falls Just Short Against Saint Martin's

Box Score

LACEY, Wash. – Alaska came storming back from a 13 point second half deficit, but was unable to overcome Saint Martin's, who held on for a 67-64 win in Alaska's opening Great Northwest Athletic Conference weekend.

For the fourth consecutive game, Ashton Edwards led the Nanooks (2-5, 0-2 GNAC) in scoring as he had 13 points with four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Riley Carel and Trey Ingram had 11 points each for the Saints (3-6, 1-1 GNAC).

Ruben Silvas and Adam Griffin both had double-digit point tallies as they scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Silvas also led the Nanooks with nine rebounds.

Alaska took an early advantage and increased its lead to seven points at the 9:10 mark of the second half. Unfortunately, from that point forward Saint Martin's would take control of the game, and ended the first half with a 37-28 lead.

In the second half, Saint Martin's and Alaska traded play for the opening ten minutes, but as the game wound down the Nanooks made a desperate run to tie the game. Silvas converted a three-point play "the old fashioned way" to cut the lead to a single point, but after the Saints hit both free-throws Edwards missed a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the game.

The Nanooks now travel to the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage for the AT&T Jamboree where they take on BYU-Hawaii and Humboldt State.
