Alaska Women Drop GNAC Opener to No. 23 Seattle Pacific

SEATTLE, Wash. – Suzanna Ohlsen scored 15 of her 22 points in the first half to set the tone throughout the game as Alaska was overwhelmed by the No. 23 team in the country, Seattle Pacific, 75-47 on Thursday evening.

Jordan Wilson scored 16 points the in Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener, to lead the Nanooks (6-3, 0-1 GNAC) offensively. She also had a joint team-high six rebounds, along with Stephanie Toumson, who went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

The Nanooks struggled offensively, as they shot 27.6% (16-55) from the field and 12.5% from the three-point line, going 2-16 overall and 0-8 in the first half. Defensively, however, Alaska played well as they forced 16 turnovers and had seven steals, leading to 16 points. Also, Alaska limited the Falcons (6-0, 1-0) to just seven second chance points.

Benissa Bulaya and Kaillee Skjold also scored in double digits for the Nanooks, as Bulaya had 11 points as well as two assists, and Skjold had 10 points to go along with two steals and a block.

Alaska will now travel to Montana to take on the Yellowjackets of Montana State Billings on Saturday before heading to Anchorage to compete in the AT&T Classic next weekend.
