Box Score BELMONT, Calif. – Alaska lost 68-67 on a last-second layup to Holy Names, despite leading since the 10:50 mark of the first half in its finale of the Notre Dame de Namur Tournament on Saturday night.
Alaska extended its slim halftime lead to as many as seven points midway through the second half, but went cold as Holy Names clawed its way back into the game. At the 2:37 mark, Holy Names pulled within one point and neither team would hit a basket until the deciding bucket in the dying moments.
Ashton Edwards led the Nanooks with 14 points and three assists. Adam Griffin also had a strong game offensively with 11 points, shooting 6-6 from the free-throw line.
The Nanooks out-rebounded Holy Names, 33-28 and were led at the glass by Ruben Silvas, who had six boards. Silvas also contributed 9 points, two assists a block and a steal.
Alaska will open up Great Northwest Athletic Conference play on Thursday, December 4 and Saturday, December 6 as it hits the road to take on Western Oregon and Saint Martin's.
