Skjold's Double-Double Leads Nanooks Over Holy Names

FAIRBANKS - Led by Kaillee Skjold's 22 points, the Alaska Nanook women's basketball team continued its winning start to the season (2-0), with a 94-48 triumph over Holy Names (Calif.) on Saturday afternoon at the Patty Center.

Skjold scored 18 points in a momentous first half en route to her game-high tally of 22. The sophomore went 8-11 from the field, including 3-5 from beyond the three-point arc and grabbed 10 boards to complete her double-double.

Stephanie Toumson also had a stupendous day for the Nanooks, as she scored 15 points and hauled in eight rebounds, including seven offensive boards.

Part of Alaska's focus was ball movement, which was apparent in their offense, as they dished out 26 assists, compared to only eight for the Hawks (0-2). Leading the Nanooks in that department was Victoria Milton, who diabolical in the offensive zone, posting a game-high six assists. She also added seven points and four steals.

Defensively, the Nanooks played with an exhilarating fervor, forcing the Hawks into 24 turnovers and recording 18 steals. In addition to Milton's four, Benissa Buylaya and Jordan Wilson also had four while Skjold was right behind the trio, with three.

Wilson also dazzled offensively, as she posted 12, on 5-9 shooting, for the Nanooks.

Garysha Youngblood was Holy Names' primary force, as she scored 11 points and had ten rebounds.

Alaska will now travel to St. George, Utah, for three games. Firstly, the Nanooks will take on Dixie State, on Wednesday before playing in the Dixie Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game is against Cal State San Marcos before Saturday's matchup against Chico State.
