Alaska Volleyball Defeated, 3-0, by Western Oregon

Box Score MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Alaska Nanook volleyball team was unable to sweep its weekend series, as it lost in three sets against Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe, Western Oregon, on Saturday night.

Alaska (3-20, 3-12 GNAC) will now return home for the final three games of the regular season, beginning with a November 8 showdown against in-state rival, Alaska Anchorage.

Sam Harthun led all offensive players with 18 kills, a mark that was double the next highest attacker, and had 11 digs, but it was not enough as the Nanooks would fall in straight sets by scores of 18-25, 19-25 and 17-25.

The Nanooks out-attacked Western Oregon (4-18, 2-12 GNAC) in terms of raw kills, by a 37-32 mark, but committed 29 errors, compared to only seven by the Wolves.

Brooke Mattice contributed eight kills while Miranda Grieser produced a match-high 35 assists.

Western Oregon was led by Alisha Bettinson with nine kills while Christie Colasurdo had a match-high 17 digs.

Alaska's next game is against Alaska Anchorage, at 3:00 p.m. on Nov. 8 at the Patty Center.
