Nanook Hockey Falls in Overtime to Bemidji State, 4-3

Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. – Cory Ward scored two minutes into overtime as the host Beavers defeated Alaska by a count of 4-3 to sweep the Western Collegiate Hockey Association series, Saturday night.

Alaska (5-3-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) will now return home for a weekend series, November 7-8, against Bowling Green.

BSU (3-3-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) scored the only goal of the first period just a minute and fifteen seconds into the game. Nate Arentz tallied the unassisted goal to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead at the end of the first twenty minutes.   

Alaska would take the lead early in the second period, after a pair of goals scored less than two minutes apart. Marcus Basara scored an even strength goal from Zach Frye at the 5:03 mark before Garrick Perry knotched his second of the season, on the power play, from Tyler Morley and Basara, 6:56 into the middle period. 

Bemidji State would score the game's next two goals, to recaputre the lead, before Nolan Huysmans burried a pass from Colton Parayko to tie the game with two minutes to play in the second. Neither team would score over the next 22 minutes, forcing the game into the decisvie overtime period.

Sean Cahill started in net for the Nanooks, for the fourth time in five games, and made 19 saves. Andrew Walsh stopped 30 of Alaska's 33 shots to earn the win.
