No. 3 Nanook Rifle Defeats UTEP

EL PASO, Texas – The No. 3 nationally ranked Alaska Nanook rifle team walked away with its third victory of the year after defeating the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) today in the UTEP Military Science Range.  The Nanooks, though they walked away with the win, totaled a season low of 4634 to UTEP's 4529.

In smallbore, Mats Eriksson paced the scoring team with a 578/600 followed behind by Soren Butler with a 574 and Lorelie Stanfield who had a 570. Rounding out the scoring team was Kasey Barnes and Luke Johnson with a 565 and 561 respectively. Not counting for score was Alexis Nardone with a 573. The Nanooks totaled a 2287 on the day in the smallbore discipline.
 
For UTEP, Racheal Schoenrock paced the Miner's rifle team with a 570. 
 
In Air Rifle, Sagen Maddalena led all shooters with a 595/600.  Rounding out the scoring team for the Nanooks were Lorelie Stanfield, Mats Eriksson, Soren Butler and Kasey Barnes with a 588, 583, 581 and 580 respectively.  The Nanooks totaled up a 2347 on the day in air gun.  Not counting for the scoring team were Luke Johnson and Alexis Nardone with a 588 and 582.
 
UTEP was again paced by Schoenrock and joined by Jessica Kinder, both with a 585.
 
"Rough showing but some huge high points," stated head coach Dan Jordan.  "It did not necessarily show in the score but a lot of good things were done today and if we can put those things into play, it will be a very different showing in the end."
 
The Nanooks travel to Dallas tonight as they will take on Texas Christian University tomorrow at 9 a.m CST (6 a.m. AKT).
