Nanook Volleyball Defeated by In-State Rival UAA

Box Score ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska Nanook volleyball returned to the floor on Saturday afternoon in a three-set loss to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference leading University of Alaska Anchorage.

The Nanooks (2-15, 2-7 GNAC) battled hard against the league leaders in the first set, but unfortunately fell just short in a 22-25 loss. The Seawolves then took the next two sets holding Alaska to 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Offensively, the 'Nooks were led by Sam Harthun who recorded 13 kills on a .211 hitting percentage. Brooke Mattice had 11 kills for Alaska while Miranda Grieser paced the offense with a match-high 26 assists.

Defensively, Tessa Butterfield contributed a team-high 10 digs and Riley Podowicz (who wore #12 in today's match), had two total blocks.

Alaska Anchorage (14-3, 8-1 GNAC) was led by the offensive presence of Katelynn Zanders who blasted a match-high 13 kills (.323 hitting percentage) and the defensive play of libero Quinn Barker who had 17 digs.

The Nanooks stay on the road for their next two games, as they travel to Montana and Washington to take on GNAC foes Montana State Billings and Seattle Pacific on October 16 and October 18.
