Volleyball Stumbles Against CCU at Nanook Classic

FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- The Alaska women's volleyball team won the opening set for the second straight match, only to to lose the next three. This time it was Colorado Christian who came out on top, fighting off rally after rally from the Nanooks to win game four of the 2013 Flint Hills Resources Alaska Nanooks Classic at the Patty Center by scores of 18-25, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-22.


Colorado Christian's (1-1) offense centered around three players -- Taylor Sturms, Ali Weber and Mollie Bailey -- who combined for 53 kills, led by Weber's 19. Weber hit .630 for the match with just two errors, and had two services aces.

Sophomore Sam Harthun (Oregon City, Ore./Art) led the Nanooks' offense with 12 kills. She added eight digs, two assists and an ace to an all-around effort. Junior Britt Glaeser (Fairbanks, Alaska/Business Administration) hit .533 with nine kills and also had three blocks. Freshman Katelyn Camp (Newton, Iowa/General Studies) posted 39 assists and sophomore Samantha Hesterman (Ormiston, Saskatchewan/Social Work) led the Alaska defense with nine digs.

The Cougars hit .339 as a team to the Nanooks' .271, including an impressive .500 (14 kills, 2 errors, 24 attempts) in the second set and .424 (17-3-33) in the third.
