FAIRBANKS – The Alaska hockey program will head south this weekend for games one and two of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup when it faces rival Alaska Anchorage for the first time as a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, Dec. 6-7.

The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday from Sullivan Arena (6,406). The game will be televised live on KFXF Fox 7 Fairbanks both nights, with game one being live and game two being joined in progress (approx.. 7:30 p.m.). The game can also be seen on WCHA TV and listened to on ESPN Radio 820 AM KCBF or online at 820sports.com.

The Nanooks (5-7-2, 2-6-0 WCHA) will look to end their four-game losing skid when facing the Seawolves (6-6-2, 3-5-2 WCHA) for the first of two series this year that will count for both WCHA points and the Governor's Cup standings.

In the new format, the teams will play four games this season as the two will meet again on March 7-8 in Fairbanks to conclude the regular season. Should the season series be tied after four games, the Governor's Cup will be decided in a shootout. Alaska owns a 12-8 advantage in the 20-year history, including winning the last four.

Last week, Alaska dropped a pair of one-goal games at home to Michigan Tech, falling 3-2 and 2-1 at the Carlson Center. MTU used a string of three goals in 7:11 to account for all scoring Friday en route to the win and scored on the power play and also shorthanded to down Alaska for the sweep.

Alaska outshot MTU both nights but only lit the lamp three times in the two games. Sophomore center Tyler Morley (Burnaby, British Columbia/Business Administration) and junior left wing Garrick Perry (Apple Valley, Minn./Communication) scored in game one while senior center Cody Kunyk (Sherwood Park, Alberta/Business Administration) netted his league-leading 10th goal on Saturday. With Kunyk's goal Saturday, he also tied head coach Dallas Ferguson for 23rd on the program's all-time scoring list with 104 points (48-56—104).

Junior goaltender Sean Cahill (Calgary, Alberta/Business Administration) made his first two starts of the year last week, and tallied 21 saves each night between the pipes.

Kunyk is tied for the league lead with 10 goals this season and is tied for sixth with 14 points (10-4—14). Morley is tied for 12th in goals (6) and tied for 14th in scoring (6-6—12). Sophomore defenseman Colton Parayko (St. Albert, Alberta/Business Administration) is tied for second in assists (10) while senior defenseman Michael Quinn (Surrey, British Columbia/Geography) is tied for 14th in the same category (8).
