Men's Basketball Hosts Northwest Indian College in Exhibitions

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska men's basketball team will get its final opportunity to prepare for the 2013-14 regular season this weekend when it hosts Northwest Indian College for two exhibition contests on Friday and Saturday night.

Friday and Saturday night's exhibition games will be the Nanooks' first (and last) exhibitions of the preseason before opening the regular season on Nov. 15 against Regis University at the AT&T Jamboree in Anchorage. The team also had a scrimmage on Oct. 30 against Post University in Barrow, Alaska.

The Nanooks face a Northwest Indian College team that laid claim to its second consecutive American Indian Higher Education Consortium championship last March at the AIHEC Tournament in Cloquet, Minn.

Alaska returns seven players from last season's team that made it to the semifinals of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference tournament and went 16-12 overall and 10-8 in the GNAC. The team was picked to finish fifth in the GNAC preseason poll after finishing fourth a year ago.

Among those returners are senior center Sergej Pucar (Belgrade, Serbia/Business Administration), who was a unanimous selection to the GNAC's preseason All-Conference team. Senior guard Ronnie Baker (Vallejo, Calif./Communication) also returns after spending last year as a starter for the Nanooks.

Fans will have the opportunity to meet the team after Saturday's game in a "Meet-and-Greet" event at Los Amigos Restaurant, located at 636 28th Avenue in Fairbanks. Members of the Alaska men's basketball team will be on hand at Los Amigos following the 7 p.m. exhibition against Northwest Indian College.
