MIDWAY, Utah – Second-year skier
Logan Hanneman (Fairbanks, Alaska/Mechanical Engineering) wrapped up an impressive showing at the 2013 U.S. Cross Country Championships and led the Alaska Nanooks with a fourth-place finish in the men's freestyle sprint “A” final after taking 12
th overall in the qualifying heat on Tuesday at Soldier Hollow.
Hanneman was one of three Nanooks to land top-30 finishes as junior
Max Olex (Aalen, Germany/Northern Studies) and senior
Tyler Kornfield (Anchorage, Alaska/Mechanical Engineering) crossed 16
th and 25
th, respectively, and advanced to the quarterfinal heats.
Alaska sophomore Jonas Löffler (Saint Märgen, Germany/Business) finished 46
th and senior
Ian Wilkinson recovered from illness that kept him out of the first three races of the national championship event to take 56
th overall.
Rounding out the Nanook racers were rookie
Michael Fehrenbach (Saint Märgen, Germany/Mechanical Engineering) in 62
nd, senior
Lex Treinen (Anchorage, Alaska/Northern Studies) in 66
th, freshman
Kenneth Brewer (Chugiak, Alaska/Biological Sciences) in 70
th, sophomore
Andrew Arnold (Anchorage, Alaska/Chemistry) in 76
th and rookie
Stefan Hajdukovich (Fairbanks, Alaska/Biological Sciences) in 79
th.
As was the case in the classic sprints, Hajdukovich qualified for one of the junior men's quarterfinal heats, where he finished second to advance to the semifinals and repeated the feat. In the junior men's “A” final, he finished fourth overall.
The team will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. on Wednesday, where they will hold a short training camp before their next competition, the Super Tour/Tour de Twin Cities at Battle Creek in St. Paul on Jan. 19-20. They open the weekend with a 10-kilometer individual start freestyle race on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. CST (7:45 a.m. AKST), followed by a 20 km mass start classic race on Sunday at 10 a.m. CST (7 a.m. AKST).
