FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Alaska women's swim team turned in a pair of top-15 finishes highlighting day one of the 64th annual Husky Invitational on Friday at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatic Center.

“Today was a good start on the weekend,” head coach Scott Lemley said. “With the multitude of lifetime bests earlier in the day, the Nanooks had a good day.”

The tandem of junior Bente Heller (Hamburg, Germany/Psychology) and sophomores Margot Adams (Anchorage, Alaska/Political science), Gabi Summers (Cheyenne, Wyo./Wildlife Biology and Conservation) and Danielle Lyons (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan/Biological sciences) posted the top finish of the day with a ninth-place showing in the 200 freestyle relay with after touching the wall in one minute, 37.03 seconds. That mark surpassed the NCAA B-cut standard.

In the final event of the session, the Nanooks foursome consisting of Summers, Heller, Adams and freshman Eileen Audette (Seward, Alaska/Fisheries) placed 15th in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:57.30.

Individually, Adams placed 37th in the 50 free preliminary race with a time of 24.48 seconds. She improved seven-one hundredths of second with a season-best mark of 24.41 in the consolation final to finish 34th.

Summers also took 26th in the 500 free with an NCAA B-cut time of 5:07.84, which was over five seconds better than her previous season-best time. Lyons just missed out on a final in the 50 free as she recorded a preliminary time of 24.59 seconds, good for 45th.

“[Gabi] has been very focused on the 500 this year and had a sizable drop from season's best today,” Lemley said.

The Nanooks return to the pool Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. (AKST) for day two of the Husky Invitational.
