Box Score SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Five players scored in double figures and a strong first-half run gave way for Academy of Art to down Alaska 91-71 in a non-conference women's basketball match-up on Friday afternoon at Kezar Pavilion.
Ariel Dale and Sha'Nice Storey both came off the bench to lead all scorers with 18 and 15 points, respectively, and Katy Wade posted a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and a game-high three blocks. Jordan Rogers added 13 points and six boards for the Urban Knights (3-0) and Nicole Biesek tallied 11 points and five rebounds.
The Nanooks (0-2) were led by senior
Teanna Boxley (Mesa, Ariz./Business Management), who scored a team-best 16 points to go with four assists and three steals. Junior
April Fultz (Rialto, Calif./Political Science) had 14 points and senior
Taylor Altenburg (Elko, Nev./Criminal Justice) was one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine boards while sophomore
Kelly Logue (Fair Oaks, Calif./Communications) had a career-high 10 rebounds.
Art U shot 41.5-percent for the game while Alaska wasn't far back at 39-percent. The Urban Knights won the rebounding war 51-45, including 20-16 offensively, made seven blocks to the Nanooks' one and forced Alaska into 29 turnovers while committing 24. Alaska saw 51 of its 71 points come from reserves while the Academy had 39 points from non-starters.
Leading 26-19 at the mid-way point of the opening period, the Urban Knights scored 20 of the game's next 27 points in five minutes to grab hold to a 46-26 lead. They led by as many as 22 and took a 56-35 lead into the break.
The Nanooks never recovered from Art U's quick start and while getting to within 17 twice with the last coming at 64-47 with 14:11 to play, the hosts maintained a lead in the twenties for most of the remainder of regulation.
Alaska returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. (AKST) when it drives across the Bay to take on Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif.
