Hockey Drops Series Opener 3-1 to Bowling Green

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Bowling Green used two goals just over six minutes apart in the second period to beat the host Alaska Nanooks 3-1 on Friday night at the Carlson Center.

The Nanooks (7-12-4, 4-11-4-2 CCHA) evaded a shutout with 1:52 remaining in the third when senior defenseman Aaron Gens connected on a one-timer off a faceoff draw by sophomore Cody Kunyk just three seconds into the team's sixth power-play chance of the game.

BGSU's goalie Andrew Hammond made 27 saves for the Falcons (7-13-5, 2-11-4-3 CCHA) on 28 shots faced to pick up the win in net. The Falcons got even-strength goals from Camden Wojtala and Adam Berkle and a power-play tally by Marc Rodriguez.

Alaska and Bowling Green round out the series tomorrow night at 7:05.
