FAIRBANKS, AK - The Alaska Nanooks opponent for the second round of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs has been decided with the Bowling Green Falcons 3-2 double overtime upset of the Northern Michigan Wildcats tonight in Marquette, Mich. With NMU eliminated, the Nanooks move into the No.6 seed for the second round and will travel to Oxford, Ohio next weekend to take on the No. 3 seed Miami Ohio for a best-of-three series. The teams will faceoff at 7:35 p.m. Friday and 7:05 p.m. on Saturday (and Sunday if needed).
Alaska advanced to the quarterfinals after eliminating the Michigan State Spartans this weekend in Fairbanks via a 3-2 overtime win Friday night and a 4-3 double overtime triumph last night. The improved their all-time postseason record to 19-28 overall, 8-3 at home and 6-1 at home under third-year head coach
Dallas Ferguson.
The Nanooks and the RedHawks already met twice in Oxford during the regular season on Nov. 12-13, when Alaska fell 4-0 the first night before responding with a 3-2 triumph the next night. With Coach Ferguson at the helm, Alaska is 2-3-1 against the RedHawks and 2-2 in Oxford.
