Parrish West was named the 2010-11 Ron Lenz National Player of the Year and a first team All-American selection by Daktronics Tuesday.
West and head coach Clemon Johnson found out about the Daktronics awards during a press conference with local media about his being named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches' 2011 State Farm Coaches' Division II All-America Team.
“
Parrish West epitomizes the ultimate ballplayer,” Johnson said. “Players can follow his lead in becoming future All-Americans. Hard work and dedication got him to where he is, and we'll try to instill those same values in players to come.”
West becomes the second Alaska player to be named to both All-American teams after Brad Oleson did so in his senior season in 2004-05.
The Daktronics All-American teams are selected by sports information directors at schools that sponsor NCAA Division II men's basketball across the country. Players are selected to regional teams before being added to the All-American ballot.
