The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced the 2011 State Farm Coaches' Division II All-America Team Tuesday. It should come as no surprise to Alaska fans that
Parrish West was among the 16 names chosen.
West led the nation with 27.2 points per game, setting a number of school and conference records along the way.
He was previously named first team All-Conference in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, a 2011 Reese's Division II College All-Star, a Daktronics West Region All-Star and GNAC Player of the Week (twice).
West set the school record in single-game scoring with 43 points against Saint Martin's on Jan. 20, breaking a 42-point mark set by Milo Griffin in the 1967-68 season. He went on to break Griffin's season scoring average record, set that same year at 26 points per game, with his 27.2.
West became the first player in GNAC history to score 30+ points in seven straight games between Jan. 13 and Feb. 3. He also became the first ever to score 40+ in back-to back games between Jan. 15 and Jan. 20. His 13 total 30+ point games are also a conference record.
He finished the season ranked second in the GNAC in steals with 1.8 per game and 11th in rebounding with 6.2 per game.
Blake Poole, of Saint Martin's University, was the GNAC's only other player selected to the team after being named GNAC Player of the Year.
All team members were selected and voted upon by members of the NABC.
Alaska's last NABC All-American selection came in the 2004-05 season when Brad Oleson was selected as a senior. Oleson was also named a first team Daktronics All-American that season.
