Box Score Jessica Harrison earned her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds in a 70-58 loss at Northwest Nazarene Thursday night.
Alaska (1-18, 1-11 GNAC) never gained a lead over the Crusaders (12-8, 7-5 GNAC), but they kept it close for half the game and headed to halftime down just 27-26.
Nicole Bozek got off to a hot start, scoring 10 of her 13 total points before halftime. Five of those points came from the free throw line, where she has excelled throughout this season.
Bozek entered the game with an .856 percentage from the line—third in the Great Northwest Conference.
The Crusaders opened the second half with a 9-0 run, creating a 10-point difference at 36-26. That lead fluctuated but got as large as 15 points with 10 seconds to play before
Ciara Patton sank a three pointer for the Nanooks.
“Our defense was much better, and we played with a purpose,” head coach Cody Burgess said. “We couldn't get the ball to drop when we needed a basket, but it was a great team effort.”
Bozek and
Autumn Greene shared the team lead in scoring with 13 points, but the offense found itself up against a stingy defense in Northwest Nazarene, who grabbed 17 steals and outrebounded Alaska 51-43.
The Nanooks head to Central Washington Saturday for a 4:15 p.m. game with the Wildcats.
