West, Bozek Named GNAC All-Conference

Parrish West and Nicole Bozek, Alaska basketball's two top scorers, have been named to their respective All-Conference teams by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, the GNAC announced Friday.

West was named a first team selection, while Bozek was named an honorable mention pick.

West averaged 27.2 points per game to lead the Nanooks, GNAC and NCAA Division II. He ranked 11th in the GNAC in rebounding (6.2 per game), third in steals (1.8 per game) and fifth in minutes played (33.8 per game).

He broke conference records for 30-point games (13), consecutive 30-point games (7, 1/13-2/3) and 40-point games (2). He is also the first player to score 40 points on back-to-back nights (1/15-1/20).

The second of his 40-point games, a 43 points performance against Saint Martin's Jan. 20, set a school single game record and tied for the fifth best total in GNAC history.

West's 27.2 ppg are good enough to set a new school season record, breaking the 26.0 ppg mark set in 1967-68 by Milo Griffin.

Griffin also previously held the single-game scoring record with 42 points in a game in that same season.

Bozek was a scoring threat throughout the season, but more than that, she was a player that could play big when she needed to. She recorded five double-doubles this season, including three consecutive between Jan. 6-Jan. 13.

Bozek scored a season-high 28 points against Simon Fraser Jan. 22, a game in which she shot a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line.

She ranks 13th in the GNAC in rebounding (6.3 per game), 11th in steals (1.6 per game) and eighth in blocks (1.0 per game).

Off the court, Bozek was also named to the GNAC Academic All-Conference team this week for holding a 3.79 GPA. This is the second time during her tenure at Alaska that the accounting major has been honored with this award. She was not eligible last year due to lost playing time.
