The Alaska women's basketball team lost its final game of the season at Alaska Anchorage Thursday night, 70-40.
The team came out and played exceptional defense throughout the first half, collecting five blocks and four steals.
Alaska took their final lead of the game with 8:50 to play in the first half on a pair of successful free throws from Autumn Greene.
They held the lead until 7:12 but never regained momentum.
Despite its defensive highs, Alaska got outrebounded 26-17 in the half. The Seawolves shot just 25.8 percent from the field, so the game remained close and the Nanooks headed to halftime down just 24-17.
Alaska did not shoot well in the first half either, finishing at just 24.1 percent at the break, but the problems only got worse. They ended the game at 21.4 percent.
Nicole Bozek led the Nanooks in both scoring and rebounding with 10 points and 10 boards. That represents the fifth double-double of the season for Bozek.
Bozek's night was representative of the rest of the team, however. She shot just 2-for-12 from the field, including an 0-for-5 line from three-point range.
Greene nearly matched Bozek with eight points and eight rebounds. She shot 2-for-13.
Both Jessica Harrison and Caitlin Hamsley finished with six points. Hamsley, too, struggled from the field and shot just 1-for-9.
With the win, the Seawolves head to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference playoffs as the No. 2 seed.
The Nanooks finish the season with just one win, which came at home on Jan. 6 when they topped Central Washington 76-71.
