The Alaska women's basketball team (1-23, 1-16 GNAC) tried to become the first Great Northwest Athletic Conference team to beat Western Washington (23-1, 16-0 GNAC) Saturday but came short in a 68-44 loss in Bellingham, Wash.
Nicole Bozek led Alaska scorers with 11 points, but she shot just 3-for-13. Jessica Harrison followed with nine points and led the defense with seven rebounds.
The Nanooks had the game tied at 9-9 as late as 14:05 in the first half, but it wasn't long before they were down by double digits. They headed to halftime down 38-16.
The Vikings led by as much as 31 points in the second half, but the Nanooks played better basketball. They were outscored by just two points (30-28) after the break.
Harrison scored seven of her nine points in the second half, shooting 3-for-4 from the field.
The Nanooks will play their final game of the season Feb. 24 at Alaska Anchorage. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
