Alaska Bested by Western Washington, 96-83

The Alaska Nanooks (8-13, 5-9 GNAC) got double-digit scoring from four players, including 34 from Parrish West, Saturday night but lost 96-83 to Western Washington (15-7 (10-4 GNAC).

The team played to its strengths, which include taking a lot of shots from the paint, but were clearly outsized by some of the Vikings.

The Nanooks led by 10 in the first half after a late 10-2 run highlighted by six points from West. They even went to halftime up five at 49-44.

But the Vikings capitalized on 11 Alaska fouls in the second half and sank 13 of 15 free throws. They led by as much as 18 points.

Brett Barkman and Aaron Kohring each finished with 12 points. Mason King finished with 11.

Barkman led with six rebounds and a pair of blocks, while King set a season high with three steals.

The Nanooks play at Western Oregon (Feb. 17) and Saint Martin's (Feb. 19) this week before hosting Alaska Anchorage (Feb. 22) in their final home game of the season.
