FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanooks came from behind twice to tie the game but the No. 6 Ferris State Bulldogs scored late in the third period to take the series finale by a 3-2 decision for a series split on Saturday night at the Carlson Center.

Alaska got goals from junior forwards Andy Taranto and Jarret Granberg and senior goalie Scott Greenham made 17 saves in the loss.

For the Bulldogs, goals by Andy Huff sandwiched Aaron Schmit's power-play goal and rookie netminder CJ Motte turned aside 31 of Alaska's shots.

Huff opened the scoring at 12:28 of the first period, when he stole the puck at Alaska's blue line, walked between the circles and fired a wrist shot that beat Greenham high on his glove side unassisted to make it 1-0.

Taranto answered for the home team just 23 seconds later, after senior defenseman Scott Enders fired a shot from the point that ended up on the right wing's stick and was deflected past Motte to tie the game 1-1 at 12:51.

A tripping penalty to Enders at 17:42 of the first, gave FSU the opportunity to regain the lead and they needed just two seconds with the man-advantage to do so. Travis Ouellette won the faceoff to the left of Greenham and pulled it back to Schmit, who fired a shot that sailed past the Nanook netminder at 17:44.

The Nanooks answered back mid-way through the middle frame, when Granberg struck for his fourth goal of the season at 10:31. Senior Carlo Finucci fired a shot on Motte, who made the save but could not control the rebound that trickled out to Yaremchuk at the left post. He spun a reverse 360 away from Motte and two Bulldog defenders and sent a backhanded pass through the crease to a wide-open Granberg at the right post, where he tapped it into the back of FSU's cage to make it 2-2.

The final frame was choppy amidsts several stoppages for icing and offsides infractions but Huff gave the Bulldogs the lead for good, when he deposited a rebounded Dominic Panetta shot and burried the go-ahead goal at 15:30 to give FSU the lead for good.

The Nanooks outshot their guests 33-22 but were 0-for-2 on the power-play and 1-2 on the penalty kill.

The Blue and Gold travel to Bowling Green, Ohio next weekend for a two-game series against the Falcons.
