Rifle Soars Past Air Force, 4658-4617

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Junior Anna Hjelmevoll fired a season-high 594 in air rifle as the Alaska Nanooks beat the visiting Air Force Academy Falcons, 4658-4617, on Friday afternoon at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.

The Nanooks beat the Falcons 2348-2336 in air rifle and 2310-2281 in smallbore.

Rookies Ryan Anderson and Mats Eriksson were second and third among Alaska's air rifle shooters with a 587 and 584, respectively.  Sophomore Julia Redzia rounded out the scoring team with a 583.

Hjelmevoll was also tops for the home team in smallbore, firing a 582, while junior Cole Bures followed with a 580. Alaska's other scorers, Scott Franz and Redzia, fired for 575 and 573, respectively.


Alaska returns to the range on Sunday to take on the Kentucky Wildcats for a match at 9 a.m. Air Force and Kentucky shoot a neutral site match against one another tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.
