Rifle Edges Nevada Wolf Pack at UTEP

EL PASO, Texas - The Alaska Nanooks bounced back from Saturday's road loss at the University of Texas El Paso to edge the Nevada Wolf Pack on neutral ground, 4647-4641, Sunday afternoon at the UTEP Rifle Range.

Leading the way for the Nanooks were Julia Redzia and Ryan Anderson. Redzia led all shooters in smallbore with a 578, while Anderson tied for second in smallbore with 577 and was fourth overall in the air gun with a 590.

After falling 52 points short of the host Miners on Saturday, Alaska responded with a 28 point improvement on Sunday to beat the Nevada by six points. They were two points better than Nevada in the smallbore (2299-2297) and four points better in air rifle (2348-2344).

In smallbore, Redzia and Anderson finished 1-2, while Anna Hjelmevoll (5th, 576), Scott Franz (11th, 572) and Cole Bures (15th, 568) rounded out Alaska's top five performers. The Nanooks' Michael Liuzza (17th, 561) and Mats Eriksson (18th, 559) shot as individuals in the relays.

Anderson led the Blue and Gold in the air rifle, followed by Hjelmevoll (6th, 589), Redzia (9th, 586), Eriksson (11th, 585), Liuzza (13th, 583) and Franz (14th, 583). Bures finished the day 18th with a 579.

The Nanooks conclude their road trip Tuesday with a match against the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs.
