SEATTLE, Wash. – Outside hitter
Lindsey Wodrich tallied 12 kills to go with a .440 (12-1-25) attack percentage as 24th-ranked Seattle Pacific won 3-0 against Alaska in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball matchup Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion.
The Falcons won the match by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-15 and remain tied with Alaska Anchorage atop the GNAC standings after improving to 17-5 overall and 11-2 in league play, while the Nanooks fells to 2-19 on the season and 2-11 in conference.
Along with Wodrich, Seattle Pacific got 32 assists from
Shelby Swanson and 24 digs out of
Anna Herold.
Nikki Lowell also contributed five kills and seven blocks.
The Falcons held a .344 attack percentage as a team and committed just five errors to the Nanooks' 25. They also produced 11 total blocks in the victory.
For Alaska, sophomore outside hitter
Keri Knight (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) paced the offense with a team-high seven kills and hit .263 (7-2-19) on the attacking end. Freshman setter
Becky Martin (Cochrane, Alberta/Bow Valley) also totaled 20 assists on the night.
SPU got off to a fast start in the first frame, opening on a 6-0 run. It stretched the lead to 14-3 and never led by less than 10 points the rest of the set.
The Falcons kept applying pressure early and often, going up 8-1 to start the second. The Nanooks got to within 10-5, but the home team answered with another 8-1 run to lead 18-6. Leading 22-7, Seattle Pacific allowed Alaska to take six of seven points, but closed out the set with two straight to double the match lead.
The Nanooks led 2-1 early in the third, but the Falcons came over the top with an 11-2 run to grab a comfortable 12-4 advantage. Alaska answered with five of the next seven points to cut the lead to 14-9, but SPU tallied three straight to up the lead to eight at 17-9. The lead was never less than six points the rest of the match.
The 'Nooks return to action Saturday when they take on Montana State-Billings at 5 p.m.
