FAIRBANKS, Alaska, Oct. 1, 2011 -
Cailin Fellows turned in a match-high 15 kills and added 11 digs to lead No. 15 Seattle Pacific to a 3-0 sweep against Alaska in Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball on Saturday afternoon at the Patty Center.
The Falcons improved to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while the Nanooks dropped to 2-13 on the year and 2-5 in the GNAC. SPU won the match by scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-15.

Anna Herold chipped in 22 digs and
Shelby Swanson had a match-high 36 assists and 11 digs. For Alaska, junior middle blocker
Casey Tidwell (Redlands, Calif./Manhattan College) totaled a team-high 14 kills and hit a season-high .619 attack percentage. Junior libero
Allison Oddy (Chilliwack, British Columbia/Highroad Academy) added 16 digs and freshman setter
Becky Martin (Cochrane, Alberta/Bow Valley) had 26 assists for the Nanooks.
The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-19 win in the first set. With the frame tied at 16-16, SPU scored four in a row to grab a 20-16 advantage. Alaska got to within three at 22-19 but a pair of errors by the Nanooks and a kill by
Nikki Lowell closed out the set for Seattle Pacific.
In the second set, Alaska surged out to a 6-1 lead, but a 14-3 run by SPU gave the Falcons a 15-9 advantage. The Nanooks came back with a 6-2 run to close the margin to just two at 17-15, but SPU scored three of four to lead 20-16. Alaska got to within a point at 23-22, but the Falcons won the set 25-22 on an Alaska service error and an ace by
Lindsey Wodrich.
The Nanooks led the third set 5-4 before the Falcons took seven straight points to hold an 11-5 advantage. Alaska never got closer than five points down the rest of the set as SPU closed out the match with a 10-point victory at 25-15 in the third.
The Nanooks will hit the road next week for a pair of conference matches at Northwest Nazarene on Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. and at Central Washington on Oct. 8 at 6 p.m.
