FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanooks got goals from six different skaters and seven more checked in on the scoresheet as they blanked the visiting Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Ooks 8-0 Saturday night at the Carlson Center.
Leading the offensive charge was sophomore winger
Colton Beck who notched a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and an assist. Also checking in with three-point games were junior forwards
Chad Gehon (2-1--3),
Andy Taranto (1-2--3),
Jarret Granberg (0-3--3).
All three of Alaska's goalies saw 20 minutes of playing time between the pipes, led by a seven-save performance from rookie
Sean Cahill in the final frame. Senior
Scott Greenham and junior
Steve Thompson turned aside five shots apiece in the victory.
For Northern Alberta, netminder Shannon Szabados made 34 saves in the Ooks losing effort.
Alaska outshot NAIT 42-17 and was a perfect 2-2 on the power play and 4-4 on the penalty kill.
The Nanooks officially open their season next Friday at the Kendall Hockey Classic in Anchorage, taking on the St. Cloud State Huskies in the opening game of the tournament at 5:07 p.m. at the Sullivan Arena.
