The first half of Saturday night's game against Montana State Billings decimated the Alaska men's basketball team. Heading into halftime, the Nanooks were down 41-27. They kept even at 33-33 through the second half ended on the losing side of a 74-60 game.
Parrish West again led the team's scoring with 20 points. He played 19 minutes of the first half and 36 total.
The Nanooks cut an 18-point deficit in half early on in the second half with a 13-4 run. West led the attack with six points in the rally, while Boe Edwards added another four on a pair of layups. Edwards went on to finish with 11 points.
Brett Barkman fell short of a double-double, ending with nine points and a team-best nine boards.
The Yellow Jackets committed just eight turnovers in the game to Alaska's 12, including five Nanook steals. Alaska entered the game ranked No. 1 in steals in the GNAC.
Alaska heads to Western Washington (Jan. 13) and Simon Fraser (Jan. 15) next weekend to continue the search for their first conference win.
