[Box Score]

Parrish West broke thirty points for the fifth time this season, and Aaron Kohring notched a new career high as a Nanook. Still, Alaska was unable to take a win from Western Washington Thursday night and lost 108-96.

Alaska headed into halftime up by two at 54-52. The teams exchanged leads constantly throughout the half, taking the advantage seven times each.

The Nanooks took a six-point lead—their largest of the game—within the final five minutes of the half. It was Kohring and West who engineered an 8-2 run that took the team past a 42-42 tie.

Kohring sank a jumper and a pair of free throws. West quickly followed with a layup and another pair of free throws.

The Nanooks got 14 points off of turnovers in the first half and 10 fast break points. The Vikings played from behind for most of the half and tied the game six times.

Alaska kept the momentum up through the early goings of the second half. The game tied at 8:58 for the 15th and final time at 79-79 before the Vikings took control.

With 1:20 to play and an 11-point deficit, Alaska began firing three-point attempts. The problem: none of them sank. Jarrett Miller shot four of the five shots, and Boe Edwards took the fifth.

West's 32 points led all scorers. Kohring followed with 25 points. Edwards scored a season high 17, and Brett Barkman finished with 15.

Kohring topped his season high with eight rebounds.

The game also marked the debut of newly transferred Nico Matthews, who finished with a two rebounds, three assists and five steals.

Alaska (3-9, 0-5 GNAC) will play at Simon Fraser Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
