PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Former Alaska Nanook ice hockey defenseman
Jordan Hendry (2002-06) and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-3, in overtime on Wednesday night (June 9) to win the National Hockey League's coveted Stanley Cup in the sixth game of the finals at the Wachovia Center.
Hendry becomes the second former Nanook to win the Stanley Cup. He follows former Alaska blueliner Shawn Chambers, whose name was etched on the cup on two previous occasions with the New Jersey Devils in 1995 and the Dallas Stars in 1999.
Signed by the Blackhawks organization in 2006, Hendry played his first full season in Chicago this year scoring two goals and six assists in 43 regular-season games. He had no points in 15 playoff games this season.
After spending two seasons with the American Hockey League's Norfolk Admirals, Hendry split time between the Blackhawks and Rockford Icehogs (AHL) from 2007-09.
Hendry was a member of Alaska teams that won two Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoff road series, captured a program-best 3rd place in the conference tournament, and hoisted four Alaska Airlines Governor's Cups. He closed out his career for the Blue and Gold with 11 goals and 25 assists in 112 games.
