FAIRBANKS, AK – Alaska shot only 20% from the field in the first half and committed 25 turnovers in their 18
th straight loss, 81-48, to Alaska Anchorage on Wednesday night at the Patty Center.
Lakeshia Levi (Warner Robins, GA) scored 20 points and pulled down 9 rebounds as the Nanooks fell to 1-18 and 0-8 in the GNAC.
Both teams opened the game with strong defense that saw scoreless play for almost three minutes. Alaska Anchorage broke the scoreless tied with two free throws from Hanna Johansson and the Seawolves never looked back.
With the Seawolves holding on to a 15 point lead late in the half they went on a 14-1 run to end the half and take a 28 point lead into the locker room.
Alaska only managed four field goals, and shot 20%, in the opening stanza as they committed 18 turnovers.
Lakeshia Levi scored six points, all from the charity stripe, and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.
After a slow start, the Seawolves rebounded to shoot 49% (17-of-35) from the field. Both Nicci Miller and Nikki Aden scored 10 points and Johansson pulled down five rebounds. Alaska Anchorage had eight players find the score sheet in the half and had 21 bench points.
Alaska Anchorage opened up a 34 point lead half way through the second half and never looked back. The Seawolves used a 9-2 run to start the half to cruise to victory.
Alaska finished the game shooting 33% (16-of-48) and only went 1-of-15 from behind the arc. Levi led the Nanooks with 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting and a game-high nine rebounds.
Ronisha Edwards (Compton, CA) picked up nine points in the loss.
The Seawolves had 13 players find the score sheet led by Miller with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting with Aden (13) and Johansson (12) also scoring in double-figures. Alaska Anchorage scored 31 points on 25 Alaska turnovers and scored 44 bench points.
Alaska will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Billings, MT to take on Montana State Billings for the start of the second half of GNAC play. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. AKT.
