Nanooks compete in first day of PCSC Championships

LONG BEACH, CA - The Alaska Nanooks swimmers took to the pool for the first day of the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships in Long Beach, California and took a seventh place finish in the 200-yard medley relay and a fifth place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
 
In heat five of the 200-yard medley relay, which included Mariya Pavlovskaya (Korolev City, Russia), Courtney Nichols (Columbia,SC), Kelly Becker (Tualatin, OR) and Felina Rosadiuk (Fairbanks, AK), finished with a time of 1:50.36, just a little over two seconds off the NCAA qualifying time. UC San Diego took home the fastest time overall, with a time of 1:44.38 followed by Loyola Marymount. Alaska placed seventh out of the 32 teams to compete.
 
Kinsey Laine (Silver Lake, WA), Heidi Tilicki (Junction City, OR), Pavlovskaya and Rosadiuk finished the 800-yard freestyle relay finished with a time of 7:48.24, almost seven off the NCAA qualifying pace. Only four of the 21 schools finished better than the Nanooks in the relay, led by Loyola Marymount with a time of 7:28.03.
 
Alaska finished the day with 96 points, which is good for 10th place, three points behind Chapman University and leader Pepperdine University.
 
Alaska will return to the pool tomorrow for the second day of the PCSC Conference Championships.
