Michael Quinn played for the Surrey Eagles he gained many things. From 2006-08, Quinn played an outstanding role for the Surrey Eagles. Eighty-nine games and 18 points has brought this Canadian player to the Fairbanks streets. Born on the fresh planes of Surrey, BC he made it through British Columbia Hockey League and is making his way up to the collegiate level.
Moving from his hometown team, Surrey, Quinn began to play his part for the Westside Warriors in 2008-10. With an outstanding 37 points in 72 games he was recognized by the UAF coaches. Quinn brings his experience on the ice (and a parka for off of it) as he makes his way to the Alaska Nanooks.
Quinn loves to play defense but likes to step up and join the offensive rush. “Michael Quinn is going to bring an offensive upside to the team and the ability to move the puck out of the zone quicker and he is a very smart player,” said Alaska's assistant coach Lance West. “He gets good grades and will bring his personality to the community and he's really the whole package.”
Michael came to Alaska to study Geography. So far he has kept his grades up and has become a great asset to the hockey team. Michael's parents, Heather and Francis, have supported him in every way. Also his only sibling, Kevin, cheers on his brother as he stands up against powerful teams.
When Michael is not on the ice he would probably be found doing homework. When he's not busy, he enjoys to golf and wakeboarding. Most people don't know that Michael is a huge fan of Taylor Swift. If he ever got to choose a celebrity to meet it would be Denzel Washington because he is a great actor all around.
During the second game of the Michigan State series Michael Quinn was injured badly around his knee area. To understand how his injury affects the team we asked Head Coach Dallas Ferguson. “His injury will affect our defense but this is a chance for our other players to get a chance to show what they've got.”
Sadly, his knee injury is preventing him from skating but everyone has high hopes for him to get better soon. He believes that he will be out for about six weeks before he will play again and is not too fond of rehab, but he is pushing through so he can get back on the ice.
From Surrey, BC to a Division I defenseman for the Alaska Nanooks, he has wrapped his hands around a great career as a hockey player. In future years, the Alaska coaching staff is hoping to see greatness out of him. On the journey to becoming a top player, it might not be too long before he is holding the Stanley Cup. Not even an injury is stopping this ball of fire called Michael Quinn.
