Fairbanks, AK- The Alaska Nanooks struggled to keep pace with the Western Oregon Wolves in the Patty Center on Thursday evening. The Wolves left with their third conference victory with a final score 91-40, while the Nooks have yet to capture their first league win.
 
At the start, Alaska stayed with Western Oregon as Alexandra Melonson (Seattle, WA) made a jump shot followed by a free throw. Afterwards, Alaska only trailed by one at the 17:24 mark. However, Western Oregon quickly answered managing a 10-point run shortly preceding another 12 unanswered points before the half. The Wolves ended the first with a 33-point lead, 51-18.
 
Jessica Harrison (Las Vegas, NV) and Lakeshia Levi (Warner Robins, GA) jump-started the second half for the Nanooks making two back-to-back jumpers. Also, the Blue and Gold found more success at the free throw line making 67% (10-15) of their attempts in comparison shooting 33% (5-15) in the first. The Wolves continued to pour and finished shooting 43% (35-82) from the field. The Nanooks didn't make any shots behind the arc in the second, and shot 28.6 percent in field goals (12-42) for the game.
 
Alaska continued to struggle with turnovers, giving away a difference of 20 to Western Oregon during the course of the game.
 
Levi continued to perform well for the Nooks acquiring her eighth double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Melonson chipped in 11 total points for the Blue and Gold.
 
Western Oregon's Katie Torland led both teams in points (22) and managed to grab 11 rebounds. Three other Wolves had double figures in points: Meaghan White (12), Jamie Richardson (11) and Sara Zahler (10).
 
The Alaska Nanooks will take on Saint Martin's on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. AST at the Patty Center.
