SEATTLE, WA - The Alaska Nanooks swim team finished up their regular season schedule on Wednesday afternoon and fell to Seattle University 130-74. The Nanooks finish their team competition with a 2-7 mark and will await the PCSC Championships in mid-February.
The competition started with promise for the visiting Nanooks with
Mariya Pavlovskaya (Korolev City, Russia),
Courtney Nichols (Columbia,SC),
Kelly Becker (Tualatin, OR) and
Felina Rosadiuk (Fairbanks, AK) teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay by 1.79 seconds over the nearest competition from Seattle U.
Kinsey Laine (Silver Lake, WA) also had a strong race in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing second, only 2.46 second behind Seattle's Casey Hoffman who took first place. Laine also finished 16.25 seconds ahead of the third place finisher from Seattle.
After getting swept in the 200-yard freestyle Rosadiuk and Pavlovskaya posted back-to-back victories in the 50-yard freestyle and the 200-yard IM, respectively. Rosadiuk brought home victory by .45 seconds, while Pavlovskaya won by only .03 seconds with a time of 2:11.57.
However, the Nanooks could only muster one victory (Pavlovskaya, 200-yard IM) and two-second place finishes, one by Nicholas (100-yard breaststroke) and one by Rosadiuk (100-yard freestyle) in the final five events.
The Alaska swimmers will return to the pool for the PCSC Swimming Championships, which take place at Long Beach, CA from February 10-13.
