Kalamazoo, MI - Rookie defenseman Aaron Gens scored two goals and added an assist and senior goalie and Hobey Baker candidate Chad Johnson made 24 saves to guide the Alaska Nanooks to a 4-3 victory over Western Michigan on Valentine's Day and earn a series split.
Gens, who notched his first two collegiate goals, scored back-to-back markers and then added an assist for his first career three-point game. Also checking in with a three-point effort was sophomore forward Dustin Sather, who assisted on Gen's first goal in the opening frame also helped set up Dion Knelsen and Ryan Hohl in the second period.
The Nanooks return to Fairbanks to host the Ferris State Bulldogs next Friday and Saturday for their Central Collegiate Hockey Association finale. Friday the teams will face off at 7:05 p.m., while the puck will drop at 5:05 p.m. Saturday.
