ANCHORAGE, Alaska- Fifty-percent shooting and 11 made three pointers was not enough to put the Nanooks over the top against the University of Alaska Anchorage on Saturday night in Anchorage as they Blue and Gold fell to the Seawolves 90-85.
Alaska would have a much better showing tonight than they did just two weeks ago in Fairbanks when they lost by 29 to UAA.
Jon Moe had nine points in the first half while Emmanuel Jenkins and Colin Matteson both had eight. Yet, Alaska was trailing 39-34 at the break.
A high scoring second half had four Nanooks reach double figures with Moe leading the way with 25. Jenkins finished with 22, Matteson 19, and the other starting forward, Clayton Edwin finishing with 10. These four played most of the game with Coach Clemon Johnson only using his bench for a combined 41 minutes.
However, it was the Seawolves leading scorer and former Nanook, Kenny Barker that would lead UAA to victory by dropping 38 points on the Blue and Gold. Barker was 10-14 from the field, and also grabbed nine rebounds and had five assists to go along with his game high in points.
Jenkins continues to dish out assists at a high rate by adding eight more to his total tonight. Matteson led the Nanooks in rebounding for the second consecutive game by grabbing nine against the Seawolves.
The win gives UAA a season series sweep over Alaska and drops the Nanooks to 5-11 overall and 2-5 in conference.
The Blue and Gold return from a four game road trip and will have three home games starting this Thursday when they host the GNAC leaders, Seattle Pacific, at 7:00 p.m. in the Patty Center.
