Fairbanks, AK - No. 13 Ohio State made it known from the opening seconds that they would not leave Fairbanks without two points as they powered to a victory on Saturday night behind five first period goals.

The Buckeyes blitzed the Nanooks as they tallied three goals in the first 4:19. The fourth goal scored by rearguard Shane Sims would be the last shot Hobey Baker candidate Chad Johnson would face as he made way for freshman netminder, Scott Greenham.

Greenham entered to find him facing the same constant pressure Johnson was up against, and the Buckeyes would find the back of the net one more time before intermission when Peter Boyd netted his 9th of the year. The five OSU goals were all scored by different Buckeye skaters.

Alaska failed to capitalize on a five minute major given to them by the Buckeye's Corey Toy as he and Ryan Hohl had to be separated by the officials as they got into a tussle behind the OSU net. Toy was disqualified from the game for cross-checking.

No goals were scored in the second 20 minutes, and the hopes for a comeback seemed very slim for the Nanooks heading into the third period.

The Ohio State University would one more goal in the third stanza as attacker Sergio Somma tickled the twine for the second time in the contest.

The Blue and Gold spoiled OSU's bid for a shutout victory as they got two late goals back just 25 seconds apart. Kevin Petovello scored at 17:34 for his 3rd goal of the season, and Brandon Knelsen scored at 17:59, his third goal of the season as well.

The two teams split the Central Collegiate Hockey Association weekend series at the Carlson Center. It was a series that featured 13 goals.

Alaska (12-10-6, 10-9-5-3 CCHA) have two remaining CCHA series left, one at Western Michigan and a home series with Ferris State which will be televised on Fox channel 7. Ohio State (17-8-3, 10-7-3-3 CCHA) moves into a three way tie for fourth place with Michigan and Nebraska-Omaha. Each team has 26 points. Alaska is in sole possession of third place with 28 CCHA points.

The Nanooks now have a week off before traveling to Western Michigan for a two game set with the Broncos. The two teams split earlier this season in Fairbanks.
