FAIRBANKS, AK - The Alaska men's basketball team kicked off the 2009-2010 season with the Blue/Gold scrimmage. The Gold team took a 51-39 halftime lead and held on in the second half to defeat the Blue 109-94. Jon Moe (Granite Falls, Washington)paced the Gold team with 42 points in victory.
The Gold team had four players score in double figures led by Moe. Emmanuel Jenkins (Tacoma, WA)chipped in 19 points while Clayton Edwin (Fairbanks, AK) (18 points) and Nolan Burcell (Fairbanks, AK) (14) also had double figures.
Along with his game high 42 points Moe also converted nine three-point field goals.
The Blue team was led by Parrish West (Chicago, IL) who had 33 points, which included four three-point field goals. Nashorn Maynard (Saint Paul's, Saint Kitts)v(26 points), Cole Daniel (Fairbanks, AK) (13 points), and Melvin Conn-Baird (Indianapolis, IN) (10) also had double figure points for the Blue team.
The team will open up play on November 19-21 when they host the Fairbanks Youth Sports Alaska Invitational at the Patty Center. Joining the Nanooks for the invitational are California (PA) University, Bloomfield College, and Dominican College. The invitational will host games at 5:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. each day.
