FARIBANKS, AK - The Alaska Nanook swim team fell in the second day of their dual match to the Kutztown Golden Bears 128-71 on Saturday afternoon.  In the Nanooks last home meet of the season they dropped seven of the 11 events despite two wins by junior Mariya Pavlovskaya (Korolev City, Russia).

The Blue and Gold came out strong and grabbed a second place finish in the first event, the 400-yard medley relay.  Junior Kelly Becker (Tualatin, OR) erased a one second deficit and pulled ahead on the third leg of the race, but the Nanooks could not hold on to the lead late, losing by only .27 seconds.

Kutztown took control of the match sweeping two of the next three races.  Kinsey Laine (Silver Lake, WA) scored a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:03.26 seconds.

Pavlovskaya took the first win of the meet for the Nanoks as she set a pool record in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:10.86, breaking the record by over two seconds.  Sophomore Courtney Nichols (Columbia,SC) took third place in the event with a time of 2:19.27.

Becker gave the Nanooks back-to-back victories winning the 100-yard butterfly smoking her closest competition by over three seconds.

Pavlovskaya took home her second victory of the meet with a win in the 100-yard backstroke in a close contest with Jordan Shapiro.  Shapiro was a half body length behind at the turn but Pavlovskaya turned on the jets and won by over a second.

The Nanooks finished off the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle.  Laine, Kathryn Niemi (Mukilteo, WA), Heidi Tilicki (Junction City, OR) and Meghan O'Leary (Seward, AK) teamed up to win the event with a time of 3:58.49.

The Nanooks will return to the pool on November 19-21 when they travel to California for the Nike Cup.  The event begins at 9:00 AKT on each day.
