Nanooks Lose Shootout to Hawaii Hilo 95-90

Box Score

Despite a game high 34 points from Jon Moe (Granite Falls, WA) and 52 percent team shooting for the game, Alaska fell short to the Vulcans of Hawaii-Hilo 95-90.

Moe followed up his lowest scoring performance of the season at Chaminade with his highest at Hilo. Moe was sharp from the field making 14 of his 24 shots. However, the Vulcans’ Jay DeMaestri close to matched Moe with 32 points of his own. Hawaii-Hilo had four players score in double figures.

Freshman Aaron Jones (Milwaukee, WI) helped Moe in the scoring department with a career high 16 points, and Nashorn Maynard (Saint Paul’s, Saint Kitts) continued to be a double-double machine as he went for 14 points and 13 rebounds. Besides the big games from Jones, Maynard, and Moe, the rest of the team combined for just 26 points.

The loss drops the Nanooks to 0-6 and the Blue and Gold hope that the Patty Center will be friendlier than their six road games were. Four of the six Nanook opponents scored over 90 points, while the other two were in the 80's.

Up next for Alaska is the Glacier Classic where they will face Virginia State and St. Thomas Dec. 12 and 13.
