OMAHA, NE – The Alaska Nanooks skated to a scoreless tie with the University of Nebraska at Omaha Friday night, but were unable to get a second point in the shootout for the second time in as many games. Their hosts snuck away with an extra point after winning their second Central Collegiate Hockey Association shootout, 2-1.

The game will officially go down as a tie, and Alaska (8-4-3, 6-3-2-1, CCHA) earns one point for the tie. UNO earns two points for the shootout win to improve to 9-4-2 overall and 5-4-2-2 (win-loss-tie-shootout win) in CCHA play.

The Mavs controlled the puck throughout the first frame, out shooting the Nanooks, 11-3, but were unable to beat senior goaltender Chad Johnson, who collected 30 saves on the night.

The second period played even with UA holding a slight edge in shots, 13-10.

Alaska's defense held strong, denying the Mavericks on the power play. Luck was in the visitor's favor in the third period, when shots by UNO's Dan Charleston and Rich Purslow hit the pipe to keep the game scoreless.

The Nanooks dominated the overtime play out shooting UNO, 6-1, controlling the puck throughout the extra frame, but were unable to get anything past Maverick goalie Jeramie Dupont who collected 32 saves on the night.

The shootout began with both goalies stopping the first four shots they faced. UNO found the back of the net first when Purslow beat Johnson for the early 1-0 advantage. Alaska sophomore forward Ryan Hohl answered back to tie the shootout at 1-1. Alex Hudson converted for UNO to give them the 2-1 advantage, but Dupont denied freshman forward Justin Brossman to give the Mavs the win.

The teams will conclude their weekend series tomorrow night with a 7:05 face-off.
