Box Score

The Nanooks built up a lead in the first half to take to the locker room, but once again saw an opponents second half comeback spoil a bid for their first win of the season, this time at the hands to Hawaii-Pacific, 82-71.

This is becoming familiar terriotory for Alaska. The Nanooks lead was as big as eight in the first 20 minutes. Paced by Senior captain Colin Matteson (Lynnwood, WA) with eight points, and junior Tony Wilson (Anchorage, AK), seeing his first action of the year, with seven points, the Blue and Gold grabbed a 40-36 halftime lead.

A 14-5 run from the Sea Warriors to start half number two would keep HPU in the lead for good. Alaska was subject to Mike Helton's career high 28 points and also saw Jason Curtis drop 17 points and dish out nine assists for the Sea Warriors.

Kevin Buggs
(Compton, CA) was the Nanooks leading scorer with a career high 15 points. Matteson finished with 13 points, and freshman Aaron Jones (Milwaukee, WI) chipped in with a new career high 12 points, just four games into his freshman year.

HPU was able to hold Alaska's leading scorer Jon Moe (Granite Falls, WA) to just nine points on 3-14 shooting from the field.

Friday's game at Chaminade will give one team their first win of the year as both teams bring an 0-4 mark to the court. However, of those four losses for Chaminade, three of them were at the hands of the University of North Carolina, University of Alabama, and Indiana University (by two). Tip off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ASKT.
