11 Different Players Score for Nanooks in 97-81 Win Over Saint Leo

Box Score

It was an offensive explosion in the Patty Center on Thursday night as 11 different Nanook players found their way into the scoring column, and downed the visiting Saint Leo Lions to remain perfect at the Patty Center, cruising to a 97-81 victory.

Alaska was clicking on all cylinders on offensive the entire night. The Blue and Gold shot 54 percent for the game including 52.6 percent from three point line while assisting on 19 of the 39 field goals made, while only committing eight turnovers.

The two starting guards for Alaska, Emmanuel Jenkins (Tacoma, WA) and Jon Moe (Granite Falls, WA) had the hot hand in the first half dropping 15 points apiece on a combined 11-19 from the field. The two had 30 of the teams 48 first half points and guided the Nanooks into the locker room with a 48-36.

The Blue and Gold continued their dominating shooting performance in the second half and saw their lead grow to 22 at 79-57 with just under 10 minutes to play. That is when Coach Clemon Johnson could go to his bench.

"If we are going to go anywhere, we have to go to our bench," Johnson stated. Not only did Johnson go to his bench, but his bench was very productive.

Senior Mladen Begojevic (Ruma, Serbia) looked to like the Begojevic of last year as he finished the game with 13 points, plus making all three of the three-point field goals. "That's his [Begojevic] job, he knows to catch and shoot," said Johnson.

Begejevic was third in the GNAC last year in three-point shooting percentage.

Alaska also had great production from freshman Aaron Jones (Milwaukee, WI) who finished the game with 11 points. Jenkins though, finished with a game high 25 points.

This was the final game of a four game road trip for Saint Leo who was coming off two tough fought victories over Alaska-Anchorage. The travels for the Florida natives may have caught up to the Lions as they were sluggish for most of the game. However, they leave the Northwest at 2-2.

Alaska is now riding a three game winning streak into the start of GNAC competition and have their first three games at the Patty Center where they have not lost. The Nanooks are 3-6 and will play their next game on Jan. 8 against Central Washington.
